Hermes Agent skills and plugins, with a TLDR for each
Short answer
As of October 2026, Hermes Agent from Nous Research ships with 58 bundled skills in 12 categories, and 152 official optional skills in 23 categories install on demand. It also has 11 built-in plugins (most stay off until you enable them), eight official plugins in its Plugin Catalog and seven bundled memory providers. Nous charges nothing for these; you pay only for the AI model and any outside service they use.

What "all" means here
This list covers Nous Research's bundled and optional skill catalogs, its built-in plugins, the official plugins in its Plugin Catalog and the bundled memory providers. It also covers part of the MCP catalog and notable community items, which are labeled. It cannot cover everything, because Hermes can install skills from public marketplaces that hold thousands of items.
The main sources were the Bundled Skills Catalog, the Official Optional Skills Catalog, the Built-in Plugins page, the Plugin Catalog and the Memory Providers page, all read October 1, 2026. TLDRs are plain-English rewrites of each catalog line. "Free" means Nous charges nothing; the outside service a skill uses may still cost money. "Made by" names the author listed in each skill or plugin file. "Shipped by Nous" means the item lives in Nous Research's repo but an outside contributor wrote it.
How to add one
Bundled skills are already installed. Optional skills, hub skills and plugins each take one command in a terminal. Plugins also need to be enabled before they load, and only one memory provider can be active at a time. Hermes Desktop users can also browse skills and plugins under Capabilities.

Core apps and services
These are the main official products around Hermes Agent. The agent itself is free. Hermes Desktop is the official app for macOS, Windows and Linux. Nous Portal and Hermes Cloud are optional paid services, and the self-evolution tool is a separate free project.

Built-in plugins
Built-in plugins are Python code that ships inside Hermes. The Built-in Plugins page lists 11 and says bundled plugins ship disabled. Turn one on with hermes plugins enable <name>. Dashboard-tab plugins such as hermes-achievements appear automatically. They cost nothing, though some need an account with an outside service.

The Plugin Catalog is a human-reviewed list of Hermes plugins you install by name. As of October 2026 it lists eight official plugins maintained by Nous Research, plus many community ones. Memory providers
A memory provider stores what the agent learns about you between sessions. Seven external providers ship with Hermes, and more, such as Hindsight, install from the plugin catalog. Only one external provider can be active, and Hermes's built-in memory always runs alongside it. Prices below are as the docs list them.

Safety before you install
Skills can include scripts, and plugins run as ordinary Python with full access to your machine. Hermes scans both at install time, but its own docs say the scan is not a sandbox. Treat every add-on like software you are installing.
- Plugins are trusted code. The plugins docs warn: "a malicious plugin can ignore every gate here." Pin installs with
--ref <commit>. - Scans help but do not guarantee. Hub skills are checked for data theft, prompt injection and destructive commands. A "dangerous" verdict blocks the install even with
--force. - A catalog listing is not an audit. The Plugin Catalog page says its review "is not a security audit." Desktop plugins run with the app's full authority.
- Preview first. Run
hermes skills inspect <id>and read the SKILL.md and any scripts. - Mind money and dual-use skills. Payment skills spend real money. Skills like godmode, obliteratus, scrapling, sherlock and web-pentest need care and permission.
- Keep approvals on. The security docs default to "smart" approvals. Avoid
--yolooutside a sandbox.

How many skills does Hermes Agent have?
The bundled catalog listed 58 skills on October 1, 2026, and the official optional catalog listed 152 across 23 categories. Through its Skills Hub, Hermes can also install skills from GitHub, skills.sh, ClawHub, LobeHub and browse.sh, which together hold many more.
Are Hermes skills and plugins free?
Yes. Nous Research's bundled and optional skills and built-in plugins cost nothing. Some connect to paid services, such as Twilio for telephony, a paid memory provider such as RetainDB (listed at $20 a month in the Hermes docs) or your model provider's API.
What is the difference between a Hermes skill and a plugin?
A skill is a SKILL.md instruction file the agent reads when relevant. A plugin is Python code that runs inside Hermes and can add tools, hooks, commands or memory backends. Plugins carry more risk because they run as ordinary code.
Can I use Claude or OpenAI skills in Hermes?
Yes, in most cases. Hermes uses the open Agent Skills format, and its default trusted GitHub taps include openai/skills, anthropics/skills, huggingface/skills and NVIDIA/skills.
