Murf AI review: pricing, voices and who it suits
Short answer
Murf is a text-to-speech studio built for business voiceovers such as training videos, explainers and presentations, with 200+ voices in 35 languages and controls for pitch, speed, pauses, emphasis and pronunciation. Creator costs $19 a month billed yearly ($228, 24 hours of voice generation a year) and Business $66 a month billed yearly ($792, 96 hours a year). The free plan has 10 minutes and no downloads, so it's only for testing, and voice cloning is limited to Enterprise.
Murf is one of the most-searched AI voice generators, aimed at people making voiceovers for work rather than for fun. This review is based on Murf's pricing page, help center and product pages, checked on the date above. It doesn't include our own listening tests.

How voice generation hours work
Murf charges in voice generation time, the total length of speech you render. Murf's VGT help page says it's used each time you render a new block or change the text in an existing one. Changing the voice, style, pitch, speed, pauses, emphasis or pronunciation of the same text doesn't use more, so you can fine-tune a line without burning hours.
Creator's 24 hours a year works out to about 2 hours a month on average, and Business's 96 hours to about 8. On monthly plans, Murf says unused time carries forward to the next month only (validity rules).
Voices and languages
Murf's text-to-speech page advertises 200+ voices in 35 languages and 10+ accents, and many voices come in several speaking styles. Its help center gives slightly different counts, so check the voice library for the language you need.
What Murf is known for is control: the editor lets you adjust pitch, speed, pauses and emphasis and fix how a product name or technical term is pronounced. That matters for training material and explainers, where a mispronounced brand name has to be fixed, not just regenerated and hoped for.
Voice cloning and the API
Voice cloning isn't on the self-serve plans. Murf's help center says cloning your own voice is an Enterprise service, and its API docs say instant voice cloning is Enterprise-only too.
For developers, Murf sells a separate text-to-speech API. Its Falcon page advertises pricing from 1 cent per minute, though some Murf pages state the rate per 1,000 characters instead, so confirm the unit before budgeting.

Who should pick Murf
- Pick Murf if you make training videos, explainers, product demos or slide narration, especially as a team, and you need exact control over pronunciation and pacing. Creator covers one person producing a couple of hours of finished audio a month; Business suits a team or a larger course library.
- Pick ElevenLabs if you want to clone your own voice, need many languages, or want the cheapest plan with commercial rights.
- Pick Speechify if you mainly want text read aloud to you; its reader app is a different product from Murf.

Frequently asked questions
Is Murf AI free?
There is a free plan with about 10 minutes of voice generation, but it doesn't let you download your audio or use it commercially. It's for trying the voices and editor. Downloads and commercial rights start on Creator, at $19 a month billed yearly.
Can I clone my voice with Murf?
Only on Enterprise. Murf's help center says voice cloning isn't self-serve, and its API docs say instant voice cloning is offered only on the Enterprise plan. If you want to clone your own voice on a small budget, ElevenLabs includes instant cloning from its $6 Starter plan.
Is Murf better than ElevenLabs?
For different jobs. Murf's editor and pronunciation controls suit business voiceovers made by a team. ElevenLabs is cheaper to start, includes voice cloning on low-cost plans and covers more languages, which suits creators.
Does changing the voice or speed use up my hours?
No, according to Murf's FAQ. Voice generation time is used when you render new text or change the words. Switching voice, style, pitch, speed, pauses, emphasis or pronunciation for the same text doesn't use more.
